The best legal education in Slovakia: choosing an educational institution
Getting a high-quality education in the center of Europe is the desire of any promising person. Have you always dreamed of becoming a lawyer? The state universities of the Slovak Republic give foreign citizens the opportunity to get a higher European legal education absolutely free of charge. What points you should pay attention to when choosing an educational institution in Slovakia, we will consider in the blog.
From a general point of view: in order to receive education on a free basis, the state has one requirement – knowledge of the Slovak language at the B1-B2 level.
The prestige of the university is far from the main factor in obtaining the best knowledge, but this point should not be forgotten. If we talk about the ranking of universities in Slovakia where you can get a law degree, then in descending order it looks like this: Trnava University, Pavel Josef Šafarik University, Comenius University, Pan-European University, Matej Bela University.
The J.A. Comenius University in Bratislava, although it does not take the first place in terms of prestige, has the status of a national university. It provides three levels of full-time and part-time education. The duration of the first stage of study is 3 years with the award of a bachelor’s degree. The second stage is a master’s degree, which lasts 2 years. The third stage involves 3-5 years of study leading to a doctorate degree. It is important to pay attention to the fact that criminal law disciplines are not studied at all when obtaining the first degree. The load at the university is divided into mandatory, additional and optional. The student independently draws up his individual study plan and is obliged to participate in educational activities, which are measured in credits. The total load during the year should not be less than 60 credits. Credits have an accumulative system and a minimum of 180 credits is required to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
When choosing a university, pay attention to the total number of faculties. The more specializations at the university, the wider the opportunities. Comenius University is equipped with 13 faculties, Matej Bela University has 6 faculties, the other universities mentioned above have 5 faculties each.
The Pan-European University allows its students to study simultaneously in two faculties. However, this university provides knowledge exclusively on a fee basis.
Some universities provide materials in a foreign language, for example, at the University of Trnava they also teach in English.
Foreign education not only expands the boundaries of knowledge, but gives a preferential position in employment. Don’t miss your chance!
